Mangaluru to host All India Konkani   Literature Conference from Nov 4

The All India Konkani Parishad will hold the 25th All India Konkani Literature Conference on November 4 and 5 at the premises of the Vishwa Konkani Kendra in Mangaluru. 

Addressing the media, Konkani activist Chetan Acharya said as preparations for the conference are in the final stages, around 1000 participants are expected for this literary conference. 

He said the committee members from Mangaluru have taken care to make good arrangements for their accommodation and meals.

Acharya said Indian writer Hema Naik has been elected as the president of the conference. Renowned entrepreneur of Mangaluru, Michael D'Souza has been elected as the chairman of the reception committee of the conference, the poet and critic, Henry Mendonsa is working president of the conference and poet Titus Noronha is a secretary of the same.

The two-day conference will include literary seminars and literary presentations. The seminars that are included in these events are as follows Seminar 1 - Konkani Literary Movement and steps for improvement. Seminar 2 - Children's Literature and Literature written by Young Writers

Seminar 3 - The State of Konkani Theatre and its direction.

Seminar 4 - Contribution of Magazines and Social Media in the Development of Konkani Literature.

“This year we have not only held a poet's conference but also a literary presentation. A total of 30 writers will participate in the event. Along with poems, you will hear literature such as prose, humorous prose and short stories.

The conference will be inaugurated by senior Hindi writer and critic Udayan Vajpayee. And Bangalore-based writer Dr Mamta Sagar will be present for the concluding function. 

On the first day, at 5 pm, both the guests as well as Kannada writer Purushottam Bilimale will be sharing their views on the challenges faced by contemporary writers.

Felicitation of  award winners of the Sahitya Akademi in various literary genres will take place at the inauguration programme, including Jyoti Kunkalkar, Fr Myron Barreto, Maya Kharangte, Tukaram Shet, Manikrao Gawanekar and Dr Tanvi Kamat Bambolkar. Similarly, at the closing ceremony, Dr Kasturi Mohan Pai, Dr Shivram Kamat and Ron Rose Cancia will be honored for their contributions to Konkani.
