Mango season is finally here, but prices are a bit higher than usual. While popular Goan mangoes like Alphonso, Manchurad, and Hilario are expected to hit the market by the end of March, they may not be fully available until late April or early May due to delayed weather conditions. The peak availability of these mangoes is expected to be in April and May.

In the meantime, mangoes from other regions are filling the gap. Mangoes from Hyderabad and Karnataka, such as Sindura mangoes from Hyderabad and Lalbagh mangoes from Telangana, are currently available. These mangoes are priced at Rs 250 per kilogram.

This year, mangoes are being sold by weight instead of by the dozen, and the prices vary by variety.

Alphonso mangoes are being sold for Rs 500 per piece, while Manchurad mangoes are priced at Rs 450 each. Totapuri mangoes are more affordable, with two pieces costing around Rs 100.

Although a few Goan mangoes have started making their way into markets, most of the mangoes available right now are from Karnataka and Telangana. Usha Naik, a fruit seller in Panaji, shared that Goan mangoes will be more widely available in the coming weeks.

Vendor Tulsidas at the Panaji market also said that mango prices are likely to fluctuate as the season progresses.

As more mangoes become available, the prices may change depending on the supply and availability of the fruit.

Mango lovers will have to wait a bit longer for the full range of Goan mangoes, but the good news is that the season has just begun, and more varieties will soon be on offer.
