The qualifying stage of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports saw Manovikas English Medium School play Old Lady of Health High School in the Junior Boys category. In the end it came down to Manovikas’s star man Vrushal Kovlekar who scored a hat-trick to inspire his side to a 3-0 victory over their opponents and progress in the tournament.
The match started with Manovikas showing great attacking intent right from the go as they came close in the opening few minutes and had a ball cleared on the line by the Old Lady of Health’s centre back. The attacking pressure was finally converted by number 10 Vrushal who scored to give his side the lead in the 23rd minute. Old Lady of Health soon let their heads drop as they conceded another in the 26th minute when Vrushal got his and his side’s second as Manovikas School went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
The second half began on the same note as Vrushal Kovlekar got his hat-trick in the 33rd minute to give his side an assailable lead in the tie. Old Lady of Health High School presented little going forward as Manovikas English Medium School rounded off a comfortable victory to qualify for the next round in the competition.
The day’s other action saw tremendous attacking flair with St Rock’s High School, St Joseph’s Educational Institute and Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Higher Secondary School registering impressive wins to march ahead in the tournament.
