The feast of Our Lady of Miracles also known as Milagres feast will be held on May 5 at the St Jerome Church in Mapusa.
Popularly known as Milagr Saibinichem Fest, the feast attracts thousands of devotees from all over Goa. The nine-day Novenas preceding the feast began on May 26 and will culminate with vespers on May 4.
On the feast day itself, the Masses are scheduled at 5.30 am, 7.00 am, 8.30 am, 10 am and 11.45 am in the morning, followed by services at 4.00 pm and 5.15 pm.
The Masses on weekdays during the ongoing Novenas are held at 6.30 am, 8 am (Novena) and 6 pm (Novena and Salve) while on Sunday it is held at 6.30 am, 7.45 am (Novena), 9 am (English) and 6 pm (Novena and Salve).
In conjunction with the religious festivities, the church authorities have arranged a five-day entertainment extravaganza, Milagres Fiesta 2025, within the church compound, commencing on the feast day.
This entertainment package includes three Konkani dramas on different days, alongside various other programmes such as games and housie.
However, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) faces the daunting task of repairing roads that were excavated for underground power cabling and laying of water pipeline, ahead of the festivity. The roads, in disrepair, pose a challenge for both residents and visitors navigating through the area.
The allure of the Milagres feast extends beyond the religious ceremonies, as it traditionally heralds a week-long fair along the thoroughfare leading to the church.
