Mapusa hospital doctor booked
MAPUSA: Police have booked a doctor for allegedly practicing in a Peddem-based private hospital without duly registering himself under the Goa Medical Practitioner Act.
Mapusa Police has booked Dr Sharad Bhat of Vrundavan Shalby Hospital in Peddem, Mapusa.
Based on Nilesh Kankonkar’s complaint against the accused doctor, Mapusa Police wrote to Director of Health Services (DHS), Sanjiv Dalvi and only after getting a go ahead from DHS booked the doctor on Monday.
According to Mapusa Police, the complainant, Nilesh Kankonkar had admitted his mother Sarita Kankonkar (56) in Vrundavan Shalby Hospital in Peddem on July 29.
During the process of his mother’s treatment, Kankonkar doubted the doctor’s credentials and accordingly filed a complaint with the Mapusa Police.
Since Directorate of Health Services was the competent authority to decide on medical practitioners in the State, Mapusa Police informed the DHS on the matter.
Dr Dalvi after conducting an internal inquiry found that the alleged accused, Dr Sharad Bhat was practicing in the hospital without being registered with the Goa Board of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy and under Goa Medical Practitioner Act 2004.
In his complaint to the police on Monday, Dr Dalvi said before August 3, Dr Bhat dishonestly induced Sarita Kankonkar to undergo knee replacement surgery at the hospital by promising her good services and packages but failed to do so, as he was found practicing without being registered with the Goa Board of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy and under Goa Medical Practitioner Act 2004.
