Hazard a guess what’s the sanctioned strength of police constables attached to the Margao Traffic Cell. Well, statistics show that the Margao Traffic Cell has a sanctioned strength of 58 constables, sufficient enough to manage the increasing traffic issues plaguing the commercial capital.
The ground reality, however, seemed different. If sources are to be believed the number of traffic constables at the disposal of the Margao Traffic Cell is around 12-13.
On Day One of school reopening, the Margao Traffic cell had no option than to regulate traffic at various school points with hardly around 20 personnel, including traffic constables and the home guards. “Just imagine a situation when the sanctioned strength of traffic constables is 58 and the actual number of constables attached to the Cell is just around 12-13,” wondered a traffic official.
He added: “How is the Traffic Cell supposed to meet the expectations and requirements of the city schools for deployment of traffic constables around their institutions when there is a gross manpower shortage.”
