MARGAO
Officials and staff of Margao Fire and Emergency Services are virtually on their toes over the last one month, rendering help to the citizens, by attending to emergency calls since the State was lashed by heavy and incessant rains.

Back home, the Margao fire station is craving for attention from the government, with water seepage being the order of the day and the building looking for a facelift.

A visit to the Margao fire station at Aquem revealed that all is not well with the building, raising serious questions on the upkeep and maintenance of the very building housing the firemen, equipment and fire tenders.

Sources informed that there is water seepage from the washrooms housed on the first floor of the building. The damp and moist wall is a testimony that the problems have not been fixed for a long time.

The electrical fittings are also craving for attention from the government, sources further pointed.

Divisional Fire Officer Rajan Haldankar pointed out that the Margao fire station had made correspondence with the PWD over the last several months, but in vain. “My inquiries have revealed that the local PWD office has prepared the estimates for the repair and maintenance of the fire station building. I have been personally doing the follow up with the PWD higher ups to ensure the work is taken up on priority,” he said.

Sources in the PWD informed that a contractor was roped in to undertake the repair work, but the work could not be taken to its logical conclusion till date.
