The Margao Police has decided to make a fresh appeal to banks in its jurisdiction to deploy armed guards at their ATM facilities and to tone up the CCTV surveillance cameras.

With a breakthrough still eluding the Margao Police in the Rawanfond ATM theft case, the police find themselves on the defensive as a team sent by them to Karnataka in search of the thieves has not seen success so far.

Margao Police station in-charge, PI Tulsidas Naik, however, said they are trying its level best to lay their hands on the miscreants involved in the theft. “We are working on various clues. The

investigations are underway,” he added.

Naik also pointed out that an exercise was conducted by the police in the recent past with a plea to the banks and financial institutions not to leave the ATMs unguarded. “We had a meeting with officials of the banks, and representatives of business establishments, including gold smiths in the recent past, wherein they were sensitized not to leave their premises unguarded,” he said.

The police would again make a similar plea to the stakeholders in the wake of the Rawanfond ATM theft, he added.

Earlier this week, unknown miscreants had stolen an ATM machine from Rawanfond and decamped with cash amounting nearly Rs 8 lakh.
