MARGAO
Margao Urban Health Centre officials are on their toes as odd cases of dengue and malaria have raised its head in the commercial capital.
Officials, however, insisted the cases of dengue and malaria reported in the jurisdiction of the health centre are only few compared to other areas in the State.
Health workers attached to the Margao Urban Health Centre carried out spraying and fogging operations in the Borda area of the city, and Monte where a construction worker had tested positive for malaria.
Borda ward councillor Camilo Barretto said he had requested the health centre to take up fogging operations in the area as a precautionary measure.
Health officials told The Goan that there’s no outbreak of dengue in the jurisdiction of the Margao Urban Health Centre as an odd case is being reported from different areas. Around 20 suspected dengue cases have been reported from different areas of the city till date, an official said, adding that these cases were not concentrated in a single area.
An official told The Goan that teams have been set up both to spread awareness amongst the citizens to prevent breeding of the mosquito at source and to carry out spraying and fogging operations. “Recently, our workers spotted a breeding site atop a building which is not occupied by the owners. From our sources, we got the owners to open the premises, only to find a breeding site inside the overhead tank,” the official informed.
Seeking cooperation from the citizens in the battle against dengue and vector borne diseases, the official pointed out that more than half the battle against dengue and vector-borne diseases will be won if the citizens ensure there’s no water accumulation inside and outside their premises.
