A 5x5 metre rangoli depicting Lord Damodar and the Saptah festival on display at the 1930 Mall has become a major attraction in the port town.

A large number of people have been visiting the place to have a look at the mega rangoli created by the artist, Akash Naik. after it was inaugurated on Sunday evening. The exhibition is jointly organised by the Samraat Club Vasco and the Rotaract Club of Vasco.

Speaking to reporters, Naik said the huge rangoli was completed in 24 hours and that he was helped by other participants as well.

"I had made a similar sized rangoli of Lord Damodar last year and this year again I wanted to make a different rangoli portrait on the Saptah festival celebration, which includes Lord Damodar, traditional sweet shops and other aspects of this festival," said Naik.

Rohan Bandekar of Rotaract club of Vasco Da Gama said they wanted to depict the Saptah celebration in the rangoli because Saptah was being celebrated on a grand scale after two years.

"We changed the concept and included various aspects like Dindi and Paar in this rangoli and we want to encourage the art of rangoli and give them a good platform. This rangoli has been inaugurated on Sunday and will on display for visitors till August 4, which marks the Samapti of Saptah festival rituals. This is a free exhibition and people must have a look at the rangoli to appreciate and motivate rangoli artists," said Bandekar.

Jairam Pednekar of Samrat Club of Vasco said Akash Naik did a wonderful job to depict the history and various aspects of the Saptah festival through his rangoli.

“We will continue to support such events as a motivation for artists," said Pednekar.
