PANAJI: In one of the most shocking incidents, a mentally unsound girl was gang raped at an appartment. The South Goa police arrested the five accused, who confessed of committing the crime.
The accused identified as Adil Lalsab Algur (18), Mohammed Ali Mulla (22), Shahzad Shaikh (18), Viresh Aguanda (18), and Mohammed Shaikh (18)—all residents of Vasco are arrested by Fatorda police.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Varsha Sharma told reporters that the accused were traced through digital mapping and subsequently held. "We have registered the case and the culprits are in our custody," she said.
Earlier briefing the media, Superintendent of Police (South Goa) Sunita Sawant revealed the sequence of events that led to the offense.
She stated that the victim was at the Margao Bus Stand when Adil Algur befriended her, convinced her to board a bus to Vasco bus stand from where he took her to Vasco junction. Simultaneously, he called his four friends and all picked the victim in their Baleno car.
They later took her to an appartment in Cansaulim when they allegedly gang-raped her.
After the crime, the accused abandoned the car at the Nuvem junction. The police launched a thorough investigation, using CCTV footage and digital mapping to track the suspects.
