A new power transformer was inaugurated in Mestawada-Vasco on Monday evening, in a bid to improve power supply in the area.

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar inaugurated the transformer in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson and ward councillor Girish Borker, and others.

The new transformer is expected to significantly improve power stability and reduce outages, bringing much-needed relief to residents of Mestawada.

Addressing the media after the event, Salkar said residents of Mestawada had been suffering from severe power fluctuations, particularly after dusk, along with frequent outages.

“These issues have persisted for years, and today we are taking a major step towards resolving them with the launch of a new transformer," said Salkar.

He added that existing transformers in the area had become old, overloaded, and inadequate to meet the current demands of residents.

"With every house now equipped with air conditioners, mixers, geysers, and other high-powered appliances, the load on old transformers has drastically increased. What was once considered a luxury is now a necessity, and the infrastructure must evolve to accommodate this. The government accepted our proposal, and we are upgrading the transformer capacity from 150 kV to 200 kV to eliminate power fluctuations."

Salkar also mentioned that an ongoing underground cabling project will further address the area's electricity issues and improve overall power supply in the Vasco constituency.

Echoing similar sentiments, MMC Chairperson Girish Borker highlighted the urgency of installing a new transformer in Mestawada.

"The old transformer, which has been in use for over 40 years, was suitable for the time when households had minimal power needs. However, with modern appliances, the power demands have surged," said Borker.
