Against the backdrop of several flights directing its operations to Manohar International Airport (MIA), Mopa; Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has once again raised concern indicating GMR Group – operating MIA - is using influence to divert flights from Dabolim Airport.

“MIA, Mopa is a prestigious project with expansion but Dabolim remains a crucial facility for Goa. We also need to see that the ongoing construction and easing traffic to Dabolim has made it a more convenient choice for many travellers, especially those travelling to South Goa,” the minister said.

In the same breath he stated that flights are re-routing to Dabolim. “We are optimistic that more international flights will resume here (Dabolim),” he added.

Godinho further emphasized that the Goa government has made huge investments in Dabolim and at the same time, envisages both airports operating in tandem.

In recent months, several flights including domestic and scheduled international flights shifted to MIA, Mopa, raising concern about the future operations of Dabolim.

Godinho also stated that efforts are underway to ensure that both airports can handle increasing traffic, with a focus on serving the needs of both domestic and international passengers.

He reassured that despite pressures from private players, the government is committed to maintaining Dabolim as a viable airport alongside MIA, Mopa.
