Water Resources Development Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Saturday warned that the WRD will crack a whip against households and commercial establishments discharging sewage and kitchen waste in the storm water drains and nullahs.
Speaking to the media after launching the nullah repair project at a cost of Rs 40 lakh near Cine Lata, Margao, Shirodkar made a fervent plea to the citizens not to discharge their waste water in the drains.
Terming the storm water nullahs and streams as the arteries of a city, town and village, the WRD Minister stressed on the need to maintain these water bodies to keep flooding at bay.
The Minister has offered full support to undertake repairs and maintenance of existing storm water nullahs in Margao and Fatorda. “I have never said no to any development in Margao and Fatorda. In fact, funds will not be an issue if there is any work left to be taken up in the city,” he added.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat thanked the WRD minister for sanctioning the Rs 40 lakh funds for the repairs of the Cine Lata nullah, saying the work will go a long way in controlling floods during the monsoon.
