The proposed demarcation of the land acquired by the Railways to lay a double track along the Velsao stretch will be held on December 20 as was fixed earlier.

The Railways has also been petitioned to take up construction of a flyover at the Majorda railway crossing, besides a footbridge cum two-wheeler bridge at Utorda for the school students to make it to the school playground located on the other side of the railway track.

Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira has also made a strong demand with the Railways officials to build a flyover at Seraulim to ease the traffic problem arising out of the closure of the Seraulim underpass during the monsoons.

Sequeira had a meeting with senior Railways officials to discuss the demarcation of the acquired land at Velsao and to take up the flyover projects at Majorda and Seraulim villages.

After the meeting, the Minister told the media that the proposed demarcation of the land acquired by the Railways will take place as scheduled on December 20, saying the demarcation process will continue till the entire problematic stretch is demarcated. “The demarcation will show which land is acquired by the Railways and the land owned by the local people and whether land on certain stretches has been acquired or not. If there are still some issues left out, the same can be sorted out across the table,” he said.

Sequeira said he has also discussed with the Railways officials the proposed flyover at Majorda for vehicles and a proposed flyover for pedestrians and two-wheelers at Utorda. “I have explained to the Railways officials that there is a school on one side of the railway tracks and their playground is located on the other side of the tracks. The two-wheeler/ pedestrian bridge will help the students to make it to the playground without any obstruction,” he added.

On the Seraulim flyover, Sequeira recalled that the PWD had acquired land for the flyover in the 90’s, adding that he has now been told that the land has been encroached by encroachers.
