Anjuna Police have registered a case of unnatural death after a 14-year-old girl ended her life at her home in Vagator on January 20.
According to police reports, the incident came to light at 4.25 pm when the minor was discovered unresponsive in her locked bedroom.
The family’s lady caretaker and the deceased’s younger sister had tried calling out to her but received no response.
Sensing something amiss, the caretaker forcefully opened the bedroom door using an iron rod and found the girl dead in the room.
The girl was immediately rushed to St Anthony Hospital in Anjuna, where doctors declared her brought dead on arrival.
The hospital staff reported the incident to Anjuna Police at 5.03 pm.
A team led by PSI Ramesh Harijan visited the hospital and conducted a preliminary inquiry.
An inquest was carried out, and the body was later sent to the Goa Medical College (GMC) morgue in Bambolim for postmortem.
Police have preserved the body for further examination, and the postmortem report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
