Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Wednesday said Bihar had been progressing in all sectors and added that it is a misconception to consider Bihar as a backward state.
Arlekar was addressing a large gathering of people during a felicitation event organised by the Bihar Foundation (Goa Chapter) at Ravindra Bhavan in Baina.
“After having taken charge as governor of Bihar, I have been reaching out to people and meeting them in person because it is my responsibility to ensure the progress of Bihar,” said Arlekar.
“Many people assume that Bihar is a backward state but in reality, Bihar has advanced a lot. In fact, many legislators speak with me in Bhojpuri language and I am planning to learn the language because I find it extremely sweet," said Arlekar.
The governor said Bihar is also a land of various important religious sites affiliated to Jainism, Buddhism and Hinduism.
“In fact, I even performed religious rituals of my late father on his death anniversary at a very holy Pilgrimage site in Bihar recently," said Arlekar.
"Bihar has around 17 universities and as the head of these universities, I have also begun meeting a lot of officials from the education department and have had a series of meetings with university officials to stress on improving the level of education in the state.”
“I want to improve the education system in Bihar and people of Bihar are surprised that in the last so many years, no governor had been attending the university senate meetings," said Arlekar.
On the occasion, the Bihar Foundation requested Arlekar to increase the frequency of the Patna Express train after discussing the matter with the Union Railways Minister and also to rename it as the Parshuram Express.
