MARGAO
Congress working president, MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Airport and the Civil Aviation Portfolio in the State, must ensure that there should not be any cost on the training imparted to the locals for all jobs including that of Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting staff who have already sacrificed their ancestral land for the Mopa airport.
“The promise of late Manohar Parrikar given to the locals of Goa regarding imparting free of cost training for skilled jobs at Mopa airport has to be honoured in true spirit and without any iota of doubt,” he said.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, the Congress leader said the issue is related to GMR Mopa airport which has called for application for the post of Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting staff last month. “The applicants had to apply through an email which was a very difficult task for many of the applicants due to lack of infrastructure and inadequate knowledge of the email. It is given to understand that few of the selected candidates after the physical test they have to undergo training for the six months by paying fees of Rs 2,36,000 (Rupees Two Lakh Thirty-Six Thousand) which is out of the reach for most of the applicants from the Pernem taluka,” he said.
Reginaldo said former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar had assured local people of Pernem Taluka that the professional skills to the local people will be imparted free of cost along with the payment of stipend for jobs at Mopa airport, which unfortunately is not getting reflected during the ongoing recruitment process.
Seeking the intervention of the Chief Minister, Reginaldo urged the government to mete out justice to the local youth who are eager of working in skilled centric jobs at GMR Mopa airport without paying any training cost and also the stipend should be paid to all selected trainees.
