In a bid to streamline traffic and remove bottlenecks on the Comba ring road, right from the Colva circle to Cine Lata, the authorities are on the job to re-design the traffic pattern, especially near the Comba subway and parking along the entire stretch.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat along with officials of Town and Country Planning department, Traffic, PWD and Konkan railway conducted an inspection of the Comba ring road on Saturday and decided to introduce change in and around the Comba sub way in the New Year.

The inspection took cognizance of the traffic bottlenecks at the Comba subway when traffic takes a U-turn to head to the Colva circle. The team also took into account the traffic bottlenecks near the ICICI Bank-Pedda footbridge and the double parking on the ring road.

After the inspection, the Margao MLA told the media that the inspection was part of an attempt to decongest the Comba ring road, with emphasis on the Comba subway.

“The Comba subway is under pressure since it is being used by the people from Comba to Borda and by vehicles coming from the coastal belt. The U-turn just outside the subway is a matter of concern and which results in traffic snarls right near the educational institutions”, he said, adding that complaints have been received from the educational institutions as well to work out an Action plan and redesign the traffic plan.

Saying that the underground sewerage line from Old market to the Sirvodem plant will be commissioned by December end, Kamat said that this will facilitate the PWD to add another road lane which will help in decongesting  traffic on the Comba subway.

The Margao MLA further said that the Konkan Railway had designed plans for a Railway Overbridge at the Comba railway crossing.

“The PWD have also pointed out that not a single house will go for demolition due to the ROB. In such a situation, we will pursue the matter with the railways and explore the possibility of building ROB at the Comba railway crossing”, he added.

When his attention was drawn to the parking by rent-a-cars on the Comba ring road, thus denying parking for the parents of wards studying in the educational hub, Kamat said that the traffic personnel will redesign the entire traffic movement along the stretch. He further informed that moves are afoot to set up multi-level parking facilities at at least 3-4 places in the city to tide over the acute parking facility.

Chief Town Planner, Jamesh Mathem, PWD Executive Engineer Prasad Panandikar, DySP, Traffic Prabodh Shirwaikar, PI Traffic Gautam Salunke, Kamat’s son Yogiraj were amongst those who were part of the inspection team.
