MARGAO: It’s official. The Margao Municipal Council will not wait for the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-headed High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) to take a call on the fate of the bio-methanation waste treatment plants.

Margao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has fixed February 19 to open the financial bids submitted by the seven bidders to set up the three bio-methanation plants.

This implies that the MMC is going ahead with the opening of the financial bids of the three bio methanation plants, notwithstanding the promise handed out by the Chief Minister on the floor of the House to hold the HPCC meeting by February 10.

The Chief Minister had promised to the call the HPCC meeting over the row whether the MMC should go for the seven bio-methanation plants or the three plants which has been tendered by the Margao Municipality with the administrative approval of the Director of Municipal Administration.

Opposition leaders including Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai, Digambar Kamat and Reginaldo Lourenco had raised the Sonsodo issue in the last Assembly session as the waste handling situation was turning from bad to worse at the site.

Sardesai had also questioned the government decision to go in for the three bio-methanation plants when the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) had prepared preliminary estimates for seven bio-methanation plants.

Meanwhile, Fernandes in a notice issued on Monday intimated all the bidders who have qualified for the financial bids to come for the meeting scheduled on February 19 at 11 am for the opening of the bids.

Work on the three bio-methanation plants includes supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 5 TPD bio- methanation plant with power generation with operation and maintenance for 5 years at the SGDPA wholesale market, SGPDA retail market and the SGPDA fish market.
