MMC claims salaries deposited on Wed, staff say no bank intimation yet

Mormugao MunicipalCouncil (MMC) staff and field workers have threatened to go on a strike if theydon't receive their August salary by Thursday.
While MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut claimed that salaries hadbeen deposited in their bank accounts on Wednesday, many workers claimed theyhad not received any bank intimation regarding the deposit of salaries tilllate Wednesday evening.
"This becomes a regular issue now. Every month, we have toliterally threaten to agitate on roads for our own salaries. We have beenworking selflessly and yet, we face constant delay in payments,” said adisgruntled worker.
“We had earlier given a memorandum that we would go on a strikeif we don't receive our salaries by Thursday. Even though MMC claims that oursalaries have been credited in the bank, we have not received any bankintimation in this matter,” the worker added.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut said thesalaries had been deposited in the banks.
"We have made arrangements and the salaries have alreadybeen credited to the bank. The MMC workers will get their salaries by thisevening or latest, by Thursday morning,” said Raut.
Meanwhile, Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) has condemned the regulardelay in payment of salaries to MMC workers.
"The MMC chairperson and chief officer should resolve thisissue and find a permanent solution, because these workers have been the realfrontline warriors during the Covid pandemic and have also been involved in allworks, including garbage collection so that people don't face inconveniences,”said GSM Youth President Nitin Faldesai.
