Manohar International Airport (GOX) has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability, winning the “Civil Aviation – Sustainability” accolade at the Build India Infra Awards 2025. The award was presented by Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu at a ceremony held at The Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA).

Developed and operated by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd. (GGIAL), the airport is an IGBC Platinum-certified facility and is progressing towards carbon neutrality. It was honoured for implementing sustainability best practices that focus on conserving natural resources and reducing environmental impact.

The airport has integrated several energy-efficient measures, including LED lighting across all buildings and Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems. Additionally, electric-powered ground handling equipment and buses contribute to reduced carbon emissions. A 5 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) generation unit has also been installed to supply electricity to the airport.

To further minimise greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, GGIAL has deployed Fixed Electrical Ground Power (FEGP) and Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) systems, reducing reliance on aircraft Auxiliary Power Units (APUs). A Fuel Hydrant System has also been implemented for aircraft refuelling, eliminating the need for fuel bowser movement on airside.

The airport’s rainwater harvesting system features inline rainwater harvesting pits in stormwater drains and three recharge ponds, enabling up to 30% of harvested rainwater to be recharged during the monsoon season.

Speaking on the achievement, GGIAL CEO RV Sheshan said, “Sustainability is one of the core values of GMR Group’s culture. Best sustainable practices were embedded in this airport from the planning and design stages to construction and operations. These accolades inspire us to take more significant steps to shape a greener future.”

The award highlights GGIAL’s dedication to environmental sustainability, reinforcing its vision of building a greener future for air travel. The airport continues to enhance its eco-friendly initiatives through innovation and green technology.
