A 36-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh was arrested on charges of possessing drugs worth Rs 2.5 lakh near the cemetery at Saligao in the wee hours of Saturday.
A Saligao police team led by Police Sub-Inspector Dishan Naik conducted a raid sometime between 12 am and 2.40 am near the cemetery at Saligao and caught Rajaram Sitaram Banwasi for allegedly possessing 2.533 kgs of a greenish colour leafy substance suspected to be ganja valued at about Rs 2.5 lakh.
Saligao Police arrested the accused under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The accused Banwasi is being interrogated to find the source of suspected drugs.
The raid was conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Somnath Mahajik and guidance of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Visvesh Karpe and North Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal.
