Vendors of the Mormugao Municipal Modern Market on Monday expressed their concerns over the increasing presence of roadside businesses in the city, which they claim are illegal and negatively impacting their livelihoods.
The market vendors, who have set up their stalls in the municipal market, have been facing significant losses due to growing competition from these unauthorised street vendors.
They allege that the roadside vendors are able to attract more customers, leading to a decline in the footfall and sales at the municipal market.
The vendors have now appealed to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to take strict action against the illegal roadside vendors, ensuring a level playing field for the authorised market vendors.
They believe that enforcement of regulations and a crackdown on the unauthorised businesses will help restore the viability of the municipal market and protect the livelihoods of the legitimate vendors.
