Citizens of Navelim and the National Students Union of India on Friday demanded the diversion of heavy vehicles at Navelim during peak hours from 7 am to 9 am and 12 upon to 3.30 pm.

In a memorandum submitted to the Margao Traffic Cell in-charge PI Sanjay Dalvi, they have further demanded to make the traffic signal pole functional at the Navelim Church and deployment of full-time traffic policemen at the Navelim Church junction and at the Belem-Navelim junction.

“It is seen that there is no functional traffic signal pole at the Navelim Junction and the same is pending since many years and no traffic officials are deployed at the Navelim Church junction and Belem-Navelim junction,” the memorandum stated.

The delegation drew attention of the Margao Traffic Cell to the significant traffic congestion experienced at Navelim junction during peak hours. “The congestion occurs particularly during morning hours between 7 am to 9 am and afternoon: between 12 pm to 2.30 pm. These time periods coincide with school and college hours, leading to delays, safety risks, and major inconvenience for students, parents, and citizens of Navelim,” the memorandum added.
