Benaulim MLA asserts AAP will rebound from Delhi setback
MARGAO
Aam Admi Party Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Monday said that an alliance of non-BJP parties is needed until such time that no individual party is in a position to defeat the ruling party in the hustings.
He further emphasised that despite the defeat in Delhi, Aam Admi Party has "come here to stay", saying the party will come back strongly and is actively gearing up for the 2025 Zilla Panchayat polls in Goa.
Reacting to AAP’s debacle in the Delhi Assembly election, which saw the rout of the party at the hands of the BJP in the hustings, Venzy said AAP has accepted the verdict of the people of Delhi, stating that the party had fought against all the political parties, besides the ED, police, etc. “Though AAP has lost power, the party has secured a vote share of 44 per cent, compared to the BJP’s 46 per cent, a difference of just two per cent," he said.
Venzy reminded that AAP had contributed its might to the success of Congress South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. “Today, if MP Viriato is moving around after his election as an MP, AAP also made its contribution to his victory. In the same way, we expect support from the Congress party,” he said.
Saying it is pointless to engage in a blame game over the BJP’s victory in Haryana and Delhi because the AAP did not have an alliance with the Congress, Venzy said the time has come for introspection on how to defeat the BJP in the coming elections.
