The new executive committee for 2023 of the Indian Medical Association, Goa branch took over with a mission to equip every bystander to effectively and quickly deal with cardiac arrest under the theme “Joining hands to make hearts work”.
The new committee is led by Dr Mohan Dhumaskar (President) while Dr Sandeep Naik is the Secretary and Dr Sandeep Bhat its Treasurer.
IMA President, Dr Mohan Dhumaskar invited everyone to work together unitedly on the IMA forum with his Theme for 2023 “Joining Hands to make Hearts work”.
The association’s Secretary, Dr Sandeep Naik spoke about the challenges facing the doctors in the form of unimplementable regulations like the Clinical Establishment Act and shortcomings of the biomedical waste (BMW).
He announced the State-wide programme by the State IMA to equip every bystander to effectively and quickly deal with cardiac arrest.
Releasing the IMA Statewide programme for 2023, the secretary said that members of all the IMA branches will fan out into housing societies, colleges, schools, sports and cultural organisations and any citizen groups to organise workshops using powerpoint presentations, videos and mannequins to actually make the participants carry out the drill of giving chest compressions to revive persons who are unresponsive, till medical help arrives.
“Such a quick response will help bystanders save precious lives and improve treatment outcomes,” Dr Naik said.
He also requested the media to observe restraint on reporting matters related to medical issues and avoid sensationalism.
Dr Gladstone D’Costa, senior orthopaedic surgeon, oversaw the handover process from the previous team during the installation programme of the new executive committee which was recently held at Caculo Mall, Panaji.
Dr D’Costa spoke about his experience with the various rules and regulations and gave the office bearers his advice on how to deal with them.
