PANAJI
While stating that actual priorities for Panaji are yet to be chalked out, the newly-elected Mayor of Panaji Rohit Monserrate has sought to utilise the experience of veteran members of the Corporation towards the welfare of Panaji residents.
“The present panel is a mix of both youth and experience. With the experienced members, we have a very solid team. All the decisions will be taken in consensus with the rest of the panel. We have to capitalise on the experience of the team members. Besides, I have my mother and father as an Minister and MLA and have plans to use their experience too,” said Rohit.
While expressing his full support for the budding politician Rohit, the former Mayor Uday Madkaikar also appealed to other corporators to work as a team for the betterment of Panaji.
Rohit Monserrate and Vasant Agshikar on Tuesday took charge as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Corporation of the City (CCP) respectively while Pramay Mainkar took charge as the Chairman of the Panaji Municipal Market Committee. Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor had been elected unopposed.
“I would like to wish him all the best. He has an excellent Deputy Mayor with him. Both of them together with the panel and former Mayor Uday Madkaikar, Surendra Furtado will do really well,” said Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate while speaking to the media after her son took charge as Mayor.
Speaking to media persons after taking charge, Rohit said that actual priorities for Panaji’s development are yet to be chalked out and plans will be made in consensus with other council members.
“We have not decided about the development priorities yet. However my primary aim is to implement my dad’s manifesto”, said Rohit.
Former Mayor Uday Madkaikar said that he hoped that the city’s promising march towards overall development will continue.
Finally Rohit thanked BJP Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, General Secretary Satish Dhond and Party President Sadanand Tanavade for their support.
