Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday said plans were afoot to identify land for a new power substation, to resolve the power-related issues in Mormugao Taluka.
Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new project to replace the 33 KVA double circuit high tension low sag conductor cables at Jairamnagar, Dabolim in the presence of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav and other dignitaries.
"We had 33 KVA power lines which had capacity around 285 amps and 250 amps and total capacity was not more than around 550 amps. The new cables will provide more than 1,000 amps capacity, which means that we can have a 33 KVA substation here, which is the need of the hour,” said Godinho.
“We need to identify land after new cables are laid and this will improve the power situation. I will initiate the process to identify land on a warfooting to set up a substation which will benefit the entire taluka to bring about upgradation of power cables and enhancement of transformer.”
“This project is worth Rs 50 crore and it will improve power situation in Sancoale in the Cortalim constituency, entire Dabolim constituency and Vasco constituency because these cables will be replaced all the way from Sancoale to Kadamba bus stand area in Vasco. We have already begun the works of underground cabling in most of the areas to improve the power situation," said Godinho.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho for the "change in conductor and overhead line" project.
"This is a major work and had been pending for over 50 years and this work is connected to almost the entire Mormugao and all constituencies of Cortalim, Dabolim, Vasco and Mormugao,” said Salkar.
“Work on the Vasco underground cabling project will start in March 2023 and this will improve the power situation even further. We will soon have interrupted power supply in Mormugao Taluka," said Salkar.
