A significant step towards improving the water supply in Chicalim and surrounding areas was taken with the commissioning of a new water pump near Regina Mundi School.

The new 18.50 KW/25 HP/415 V Horizontal Split Case Pump Set, along with a control panel for the pump house adjoining the 300 Cum Ground Level Reservoir (GLR), was inaugurated by Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho in the presence of Sancoale ZP member Anita Thorat and officials from the PWD.

Godinho emphasised the importance of infrastructure development during the inauguration. “This is a positive development undertaken with ZP funds, and will cater to the needs of the residents, ensuring a more reliable water supply,” said Godinho.

“The new pump is expected to provide immediate relief to the locals and significantly improve the overall water supply infrastructure in Chicalim. We are planning to inaugurate and lay the foundation for many more projects under ZP funds.”

PWD Assistant Engineer Vishwambar Bhende expressed confidence that the newly installed pump would address long-standing water supply issues in the area. “The pump house caters to Chicalim, hilltop areas, and homes near Regina Mundi School. Our old infrastructure was slow in filling the tanks, but this new pump, commissioned under ZP funds, will replace the older one and significantly reduce the time taken to fill the tanks. We have also proposed replacing the other pump through state funds, which will further improve water supply,” said Bhende.

Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat lauded the project as a successful example of utilising ZP funds for public benefit.

"Residents were facing issues with water supply, and I was informed that the PWD motor pump was damaged, affecting water pressure. After consulting with the Zilla Panchayat, we realised that ZP funds could be used to resolve this issue. We decided to commission a new water pump to ensure a better water supply for the community,” said Thorat.
