MARGAO
A solution seemed to have eluded the Margao Municipal Council as well as the Powers that be controlled the civic body to restore the pristine glory of the iconic Margao old bus stand.
Mangled remains of accident vehicles, waste all around and haphazard parking by fast food kiosks sum up the eyesore at the old bus stand during a visit on Monday.
Strange it may sound, but true that while the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat-led Margao Municipal Council has embarked on the beautification of the wards, the old Margao bus stand has been craving attention.
There seemed no proper handling of the waste generated at the bus stand as evident by the fact that the waste just lie exposed at the site pending disposal.
The shifting of the Maina Curtorim police station and the creation of the new Fatorda police station had promised to reduce the number of accident vehicles dumped at the old bus stand but in vain. What’s, however, interesting to note is that the accident vehicles are not parked in an orderly manner, giving a bad look at the area.
The Margao Municipal Council, sources said, is yet to take a call on issuing directions to the fast food kiosk owners to tow the kiosks to their place of residence after business hours. As a result of which, the kiosks are found parked at the bus stand round-the-clock right under the nose of the municipal authorities.
Passengers using the old bus stand to head to their respective destinations must be earnestly hoping against hope that the dilapidated bus shelter is repaired ahead of the ensuing monsoons.
