The State government submitted to the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday that it has not granted any venue permission to Sunburn EDM organisers. The submission was made in reply to a notice issued by the High Court to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to revoke permissions for the event, particularly in Dhargalim.
The Village Panchayat of Dhargalim also stated that it has not approved any request to host the festival in the village. Dhargalim resident Bharat Bagkar sought the Court’s intervention to revoke permissions granted to the festival, expressing concerns that the festival’s proposed new venue at Dhargalim 'is likely to infest the village with alcohol and restricted substances and cause uncontrolled sound and light pollution.' He also pointed out it allegedly failed to comply with earlier directions of the High Court and flawed payment of taxes and arrears.
The petitioner also suggested relocating the festival to a closed-door venue in an area away from the village of Dhargalim where tourism is encouraged.
With the latest submission, the Bench adjourned the matter for the next hearing on December 9.
The event is scheduled to take place from December 28-30 pending venue confirmation. However, the organisers' social media pages recently announced Dhargalim as the venue. Several places at Quitol, Candolim, Camurlim, Varca, Verna, Chicalim, Vasco, Agonda and several places have voted against allowing this EDM.
