The Vasco Carnival Committee on Wednesday morning made it clear that noisy and speeding vehicles will not be allowed to participate in the Vasco Carnival float parade on February 12, even in the Junk Vehicles category.
Vasco Carnival Committee President Fransisco De Souza was speaking to reporters after attending a joint meeting with Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson and officials of various government departments like police, electricity, traffic, PWD, fire and other departments.
"We have formed a screening committee and we will issue numbers to floats in various categories and only those floats with numbers will be allowed. We will not allot numbers to any vehicles which are noisy or creating pollution or attempting to race in the parade and as such, they will not be allowed to participate in any category of floats in the Vasco Carnival Parade," said De Souza.
DeSouza said the Vasco Carnival float parade will be held on February 12, while the programmes will start on February 10 and end on February 13.
"We have asked the MMC to clear the roads and provide us with security near the main Carnival stage. We have also asked the electricity department to offer us staff as we move our floats parade through the Swatantra Path and we asked the Health and the Fire department to keep Fire Tender and Ambulance on standby.”
“MMC Chairperson Girish Borker has assured to get the roads cleaned and sprayed with water while the traffic and police department have assured proper security and road movement of float parades. We have also asked the police to give us security, especially near the stage to prevent any nuisance," said De Souza.
