Waste management continues to be a major problem in many parts of Goa, especially in panchayat areas. “Most panchayats lack funds and are unable to manage waste properly. To help them, I will work to provide one garbage collection vehicle to each panchayat under the MPLAD scheme,” said Union Minister Shripad Naik.
He was speaking at a function held at the Tourism Bhavan in Patto-Panaji, where hearse vans were handed over to village panchayats. Under the MPLAD scheme, hearse vans were given to the panchayats of Salvador do Mundo, Penha de France, and Bhironda in Sattari.
The event was attended by Poriem MLA Deviya Rane, North Goa District Collector Dr Sneha Gite, IAS, Penha de France Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Salvador do Mundo Sarpanch Bindiya Naik, Bhironda Sarpanch Udaysingh Rane, former BJP North Goa President Mahanand Asnodkar, ZP Member Kartik Kudnekar, and other dignitaries.
In the last 25 years, more than 1,200 projects have been completed using MPLAD funds, and over 200 projects are currently in progress. In the past three years alone, 33 ambulances have been given to government hospitals and health centres, Naik said
With strong support from the North Goa Collector, these projects are moving ahead quickly, Naik said.
Thanks to Minister Shripad Naik’s efforts, a modern mobile cancer detection van has also been provided to Goa Medical College using CSR funds. This van has made it easier to detect cancer early and start treatment on time. It has been a big help to cancer patients.
Several differently-abled citizens have received two-wheelers under the MPLAD scheme. The minister also said that more vehicles and artificial limbs will be provided soon.
Minister Shripad Naik has played an active role in developing Sattari Taluka by starting several important projects. Through the MPLAD scheme, he has helped build community halls in most village panchayats of Sattari. The long-pending demand for a hearse van in Bhironda has now been met. Some projects are still ongoing, and new proposals have already been sent, said Poriem MLA Deviya Rane.
