North Goa police intensify crackdown on illegal touts

The North Goa Police booked 92 touts across major tourist locations last month alone, with district police claiming it as part of a stringent crackdown on illegal touting activities.

North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal stated that efforts have been intensified to protect tourists at popular sites, particularly Calangute beach given that it is the most frequented among tourists.

While a total of 92 cases were filed against illegal touts and agents last month, the highest number of arrests this year – 271 -- was recorded in Calangute alone.

“This year, Calangute police have been actively cracking down on touts operating in the State, in which they have arrested 271 illegal agents/touts under the Tourist Trade Act 1982, so far. The police are committed to maintaining law and order, making their concerned jurisdiction a safe and enjoyable destination for all visitors,” the SP said.

Calangute Police Station registered a maximum of 84 cases last month. Other police stations, including Panaji, Anjuna and Mopa Airport, logged four, two, and two cases, respectively.

“This enforcement initiative, in line with the Tourist Trade Act with Rs 5,000 fine imposed for first-time offenders and Rs 50,000 for repeat violations,” the SP said.
