North Goa recorded at least one drug-related case every three days, with the district police registering 10 NDPS cases in January, involving different types of narcotics worth approximately Rs 13.69 lakh.

Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Akshat Kaushal shared details revealing that various police stations booked 10 cases against alleged drug peddlers, including four Goans, five non-Goans, and one foreign national. A substantial quantity of narcotics, including 204 grams of Charas, 9,849 grams of Ganja, and 25 grams of MDMA, with an estimated total value of Rs 13.69 lakh, was seized.

Among these, two cases were registered on Friday by the Mapusa and Calangute police stations. Mapusa police arrested Sukha Masaka Majhi (29) and Chandan Chaitanya Sethi (23) with 3.5 kg of suspected Ganja worth Rs 3 lakh. Calangute police arrested Akhil Mhalasekar (24) with 25 grams of MDMA worth Rs 2.5 lakh.

“Our efforts to curb drug-related crimes are a testament to our dedication to keeping the community safe. We urge citizens to report any information regarding illegal drug activities to help ensure a safer and healthier environment for all,” SP Kaushal stated.

SP Kaushal added that they would also focus on creating awareness to distance youth from the drug menace.

“Through human and technical surveillance, we have identified a list of suspects who are dealing with drugs. Special teams have been formed at the Police Station and District level, which are working round the clock to apprehend all such persons. Going forward, we are also keen on focusing on awareness to dissuade our youth from taking any intoxicant or drugs,” the SP said.
