Stopping short of calling it extension of ‘lockdown’, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the Covid-related restrictions will continue until next Monday (May 10) morning.

The State government had imposed a 4-day lockdown from last Thursday night and which was to end on Monday morning amid a ferocious second wave of the dreaded Coronavirus in the State.

“It’s not a ‘lockdown’. But due to increased mortality rate, the Covid-19 restrictions will continue to be strictly followed from this Monday to coming Monday,” Sawant said in an address to the people.

The restrictions will be in force from Monday (May 3), 6 am till next Monday (May 10) morning.

Sawant said, violators of the restrictions will be strictly prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code and the Disaster Management Act.

District Magistrates (Collectors) of both North and South Goa have issued fresh orders imposing the new restrictions which are more or less similar to those which were put in place during when the government imposed the four-day lockdown last Thursday.

The new restrictions have tweaked the timings that stores and shops selling essential goods and groceries, besides restaurants can remain open. Earlier it was 6 am to 9 pm but now it is 7 am to 7 pm.

Kitchens of restaurants and food outlets however can remain open to service home delivery orders.

Functions and events in the political, sports, academic, enteritainment and cultural fields however continue to be banned. Marriages are being permitted with only 50 people being allowed at the ceremony.

Government offices, PSUs, local self-governing bodies are permitted to function with only 50 per cent of its staff.
