Terming it 'har ghar fibre' Sawant said education and Information Technology needed to be integrated and expressed confidence that a good "IT Culture" will develop in Goa over the next five years.
“Education along with IT should be integrated. The integration will bring an IT culture to the State. In the next 5 years, we will see that good IT culture will develop," Sawant said.
The chief minister was speaking at the event of the IT department held to distribute cheques to Start-ups under 'salary subsidy' module of the government's Start-up policy.
Tourism and IT Minister Rohan Khaunte and Goa Info-tech Corporation chairman, Dr Chandrakant Shetye were also present at the event.
Sawant said his government was focussed on promoting the IT industry in the State and the 'har ghar fibre' initiative was a measure in this direction.
“My vision is to make Goa the top State in the startup ecosystem by 2025," Sawant said, adding that currently, it was in the fourth position in India.
Khaunte meanwhile said, over a 1,000 wi-fi hotspots will be developed across the state to scale up connectivity and infrastructural support.
"We had announced it in the House and asked MLAs to provide us the locations in their constituencies where they wanted the wi-fi hubs. Only three MLAs have responded," Khaunte said, adding that in the coming weeks and months it will be put in place.
