The mark sheets and data of class 10 and 12 students in Goa between the academic years 2011 and 2019 are now available on DigiLocker.
It was in March this year that acting as the nodal agency to guide and oversee the project, the IT department had conducted the first sensitisation programme for the heads of the departments and educational institutes including the Goa University and Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
Since these certificates are directly uploaded by the universities and boards, separate authentication for them is not necessary. And these are taken as valid, authentic certificates in soft copy, leaving no gap for issuing or producing fake certificates by anyone. There is zero possibility of a fake certificate when the producer is asked to provide the link or scan code of the said certificate.
A Goan IT company Umang Software had presented the concept to the Director of Technical Education Vivek Kamat two years ago suggesting to save data on DigiLocker using blockchain which is the ultimate way of safeguarding the authenticity of any document.
“The person can mention the link on their CV while approaching for the interview. It is as good as anyone authenticating a valid certificate. The method is full proof for the universities and school education boards too, as the certificates are saved and uploaded on the DigiLocker from the very source itself,” stated Mangirish Salelkar, CEO, Umang.
Safe and secure to use the app is designed with all the necessary security measures to keep the personal data of the citizens of India protected. The documents supported by the app are Aadhar card, birth certificate, PAN verification record, driving licence and vehicle registration certificate among others.
The process had begun two years ago after the government of Goa directed all its departments to adopt this system so that the citizens can submit digital copies of important documents instead of physical ones.
The DigiLocker platform is used by the Central government. In Goa, the department of information and technology had issued a notification making it mandatory for various government departments to provide access to authentic documents in digital format, to the citizens through this platform. This ruled out the necessity of submitting hard copies of documents and allowing governance to work towards a paperless administration.
