Perhaps for the first time in the jurisdiction of Margao police station, a lady drug peddler from Odisha fell into the dragnet of the police early Sunday morning.
The police apprehended the accused 35-year-old lady Arati Nayak, a resident of Mohana Rangamatia, Merynagar, Gajapati, Odhisha at the Margao Ring Road, Aquem-Tolleaband, for being in illegal possession of 5.5 kilograms of 'greenish colour fruiting and flowering tops of plants' suspected to be "ganja" worth around Rs 5.5 lakh in the market.
Margao Police station in-charge PI Tulsidas Naik informed that this is the first time that a woman has been arrested with a huge quantity of ganja from the jurisdiction.
This is also the first time that the Margao police have seized a huge quantity of drugs.
The raid was conducted by PSI Yeshwant Raikar, ASI Dilkush Velip, HC Shamir Nagnoori, Shankar Sawant, HC Gorakhnath Gawas, PC Ijaz Sakli, PC Shubani Shaikh and LPC Akarsha Gaonkar in the presence of Mamlatdar of Salcete Laxmikant Dessai and the guidance of Police Inspector, Margao Town PS Tulsidas Naik and Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao Shivendu Bhusan, IPS.
To a question over the source of the drugs, PI Tulsidas said the investigation of the case is being conducted by PSI Vishwajit Dhavalikar, saying all these questions into the source of drugs and the role played by the lady in drug trafficking will be investigated in detail.
