Old Goa residents demand action on illegal activities and construction projects

Porvorim: The residents of Old Goa marched to the Chief Minister's Office at the Secretariat expressing concern over illegal activities and constructions, with a request for a village master plan.

The aggrieved locals voiced their opposition to new construction projects driven by the real estate industry.

The Save Old Goa Action Committee accompanied by local called for a master plan to protect the UNESCO World Heritage site before the upcoming SFX exposition. They highlighted that 12 illegal projects are currently being developed in this important area.

The demand  for a master plan follows a resolution passed at a recent panchayat gram sabha.

"We are here to raise our concerns with the head of the State about the illegal activities taking place in Old Goa," Vincent D'Silva, a resident said.

D'Silva also pointed to numerous construction projects approved by government departments, which he believes are harmful to the community. He urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to initiate an inquiry and put a stop to these developments, insisting that action is necessary.

“The CM oversees the cabinet and is responsible for the actions of all ministers. He must take this issue seriously and not claim he is unaware of what is happening,” D'Silva added, as the delegation submitted a memorandum seeking action.
