The Old Goa panchayat got a boost for waste management as it was given equipment worth Rs 83 lakh under the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen-II scheme.
Under the scheme, the panchayat was provided with e-rickshaw, organic waste composter, plastic paper shredder, baling machine, waste segregation table and incinerator for sanitary pads.
Speaking at the function to hand over the equipment on Wednesday, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said the BJP government has undertaken development even when the State was going through a financial crisis.
“We did not stop schemes nor development works during the difficult times of pandemic. Under the Grameen-II scheme, 60 panchayats will be given Rs 120 crore by the government,” Godinho said.
“People may say that we are undertaking development works because elections are around the corner. But that is not the case as we have got the Central funds now,” Godinho stated.
“We have received the GIA funds and in 2-3 days, the same will be released to the panchayats,” he assured.
Godinho also used the opportunity to warn Goans to beware of parties which are known to incite violence.
He also urged Goans to exercise caution on other parties which are promising the moon.
Later, the panchayats minister inaugurated the Material Recovery Facility shed at Dhauji where the equipment would be put to use for waste management.
Also present were Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, Old Goa Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar, panchas, BDOs, panchas and others.
