A routine inspection by district police Chief, South SP Pankaj Kumar Singh, at the Gandhi market, Margao, brought rich dividends to the Margao police.
As the district police chief with Margao police station in-charge, PI Sachin Narvekar, descended on the market, they stumbled upon a common gaming house in the premises of Lotlikar building near Kurade soda factory on Friday evening.
The common gambling house was operating online game of chance/roulette known as “Win-Lucky”. Besides the two persons, who were running the gambling on behalf of their owner, the police also nabbed 11 persons who were found playing at the premises.
During the crackdown, the Margao police seized cash of Rs 80,590 in different denominations, besides 11 Lenovo all in one computers, each worth Rs 25,000. They also seized an internet modem, one router and two wifi dongles worth Rs 10,000.
All items were worth Rs 3,65,590.
The police booked the accused persons under the Prevention of Gambling Act. They were also booked under section 269 and 188 of the IPC for violating the curfew order issued by the District Magistrate, South Goa, under 144 of Cr PC to prevent the spread of Covid.
The police said a total of 10 persons have been arrested so far. Further investigation in progress under PSI Vishwajit Dhavalikar.
