The South Goa police on Friday sent a message loud and clear to the water sports operators to run the operations as per the norms and permission issued by the authorities or face FIR.
In fact, the police team headed by district Police chief, SP Sunita Sawant sought the cooperation and support of the water sports operators to run the business by complying with the licences granted by the authorities. PIs heading various coastal police stations, besides DySPs, Sidhant Shirodkar and Gurudas Kadam attended the meeting.
The interaction held with the water sports operators against the backdrop of the Keri paragliding tragedy, the police have advised the operators to ensure they run the operations as per the licence norms.
Issuing a warning that the men-in-uniform will not remain a silent spectator to illegalities indulged by the water sports operators, the SP, South has warned that any violation will result in the cancellation of the permission and licences, besides registration of FIR under the provisions of the BNS law.
“This interaction has been convened just to sensitise the operators so that they run the water sports operations as per the guidelines and norms. We have seen what has happened at Keri. We don’t want similar incidents to happen at other places. Please cooperate with the police and other agencies by running the water sports activities as per the guidelines,” Sawant said.
On the grievances expressed by the water sports operators, the SP, South said that their grievances will be placed before the authorities for redressal. “You have to take all corrective and safety measures to ensure that the trip of the tourists is safe and they not only remember their visit to Goa, but they become the ambassadors of tourism for Goa in their respective states,” she said.
