The dengue and cholera-hit Cutbona fishing jetty on Tuesday was washed as part of the cleanup operations ordered by the authorities.

A day after Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira reviewed the situation at the Cutbona fishing jetty, workers were seen washing the fishing jetty with water pumped from the river Sal.

Members of the Cutbona Boat Owners Federation led by President Antonio Fernandes, Patrick D’Silva, Sebastian Cardozo and others supervised the cleaning operations.

During his visit to the jetty on Monday, the Environment Minister had expressed satisfaction that the 46 fishing vessels anchored at the 222-metre long new jetty have been removed by the owners. He also said that the owners have lifted away the dinghies from the new jetty, barring one or two.

From the government side, the Minister had directed the PWD, Water Supply to ensure that the new water line becomes a reality at the earliest.

He has also told the Fisheries Department to expedite the proposal to build the 50-seater toilet block for the use of the thousands of migrant labourers working on the fishing vessels operating from Cutbona.
