After a delay spanning over half-a-decade, this 500 cubic meter capacity overhead water tank initiated under the JICA scheme at Moti Dongor has finally become a reality.

Abandoned mid-way for a host of reasons, the Rs 70 lakh project was commissioned by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat in the presence of Superintending Engineer, PWD, Presley Dias, EE Shrikant Gaonkar, AE Subodh Shirodkar, JE Pallavi Tupare and Nadim, ward councillor Damodar Varak and local residents.

The project which dragged on for years will cater to the water requirement of the residents of in and around Moti Dongor, besides the areas of Pajifond and Aquem and give relief from the erratic water supply.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamat said it is important that every city must have the basic infrastructure in place which can provide the required amenities to the citizens like water and power supply, sewage and garbage disposal, road network, drains, etc. “I have always focused on creating the basic Infrastructure in Margao,” he said.

“Today, most of the areas in Margao are connected with underground sewerage system. The city also has underground power cabling. We have water reservoir at Gogol and Monte Hill and also overhead tanks which can supply water to the entire city for minimum 4 to 5 days in case there is breakdown in the pipeline supply water from Salaulim to Margao,” he said.

Saying he has initiated plans for beautification of the entire city which will be taken up in a phased manner, Kamat thanked the citizens for extending their support and co-operation in various developmental works of the city.
