The Bombay High Court at Goa has allowed the owner of the Arambol illegal four-storeyed hotel six weeks to demolish his illegal structure.

When the matter came up for hearing, the owner of the structure gave an undertaking before the High Court that he would demolish the structure at his own cost within six weeks.

The Bombay High Court at Goa in mid-October had ordered the sealing of the four-storeyed hotel that was built and operating without any permissions whatsoever from any authorities within the Coastal Regulation No Development Zone.

Hearing a petition filed by one Ravi Harmalkar, the High Court expressed that it was “completely shocked that a structure of this magnitude could come up in a highly eco-sensitive No Development Zone without obtaining permissions from any of the authorities under any of the several legislations and regulations which would normally apply to these types of constructions assuming that such a construction was permissible in a NDZ.”

On Wednesday, the High Court was informed that in the vicinity of the four-storeyed hotel in Arambol, two more illegal structures were built in the No Development Zone belonging, allegedly, to the father and uncle of the sarpanch of Arambol.

The High Court, while posting the matter for hearing on November 7, directed that the two guest houses be sealed and directed the sarpanch to file an affidavit giving a list of illegal structures that are existing in the ward of Arambol, that is represented by the sarpanch.
