The 74-year-old founder of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) and Padma Shree awardee Dr Kiran Seth is on a cycle expedition from Goa to Pune.
The endeavour by Dr Seth is the part of new mission of cycling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Dr Seth, a professor emeritus from Delhi, reached Belagavi on May 10. Cycling from South and North Goa en route, he is meeting students, faculty, principals, educationists, ministers, donors and media to spread his message to support art and culture.
Addressing media persons at the Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT) on Thursday, Dr Seth said SPIC MACAY is a 45-year old nationwide, non-political, people's movement and a registered society that has been organising programmes of classical music and dance, folk music and dance, meditation, yoga, cinema classic screenings, talks by eminent persons, heritage walks, craft workshops inside school and college campuses to inspire students to take an active interest in Indian heritage.
“Over 5,000 volunteers organise more than 5,000 programmes every year in 800 towns of India and abroad,” he informed.
Students of GIT cycled along with Dr Seth when he visited the institute on May 10.
Chairman Governing Council KLS GIT Rajendra Belgaumkar extended his greetings to Dr Seth for his noble cause to uplift enlightenment on Indian heritage.
