A group of water colour painting artists on Sunday morning arrived in Vasco to sketch and paint the Portuguese era watch tower to promote water colour painting among people.
The group of artists under the Watercolor Artist Association of Goa (WAAG) stood in the area near the HDFC Bank and began the painting, much to the surprise of local people, who gathered in large number to patiently watch the artists carry out the paintings.
WAAG member Kalidas Satardekar later informed reporters that the group visits different places in Goa on Sundays to promote water colour art and encourage people into water colour painting through such activities.
" We have a group of 50 to 60 water colour artists and we go to different locations on every Sunday using the water colour medium which is rarely used these days because of the difficulty to control it. We have made this group for creating an awareness on water colour painting and motivate people into this art, " said Satardekar.
" Most of our artists are free on Sunday and when we work on Sunday, a lot of people gather to watch our works and this automatically creates awareness. We choose various subjects that include Goan architecture, landscape and even cityscape. Outdoor activities improve our works and we also get to have an exhibition of our art and helps us with programmes as well, " said Satardekar.
" In studio painting, we get the time to work the way we want using all the colours but when we work on location, we take a subject and decide what aspects to use in the art . Light is the most challenging part because the shade keeps changing as time passes by during an outdoor location painting," said Satardekar.
