Raising alarm over attempts by officials of Panaji Smart City to install a CCTV pole at the edge of narrow section of the Chimbel Junction on Tuesday, panch Sandesh Chopdekar rushed to the site and persuaded officals to shift the pole to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Speaking to The Goan, Chopdekar informed that in recent times, the Chimbel Junction has proved to be an accident-prone area as many accidents have been occurring here.
“I have been following up with panchayat authorities, traffic police, PWD and other departments concerned to ensure that there is smooth flow of traffic, and mishaps are avoided,” Chopdekar stated.
“However, I was alarmed today to see a pit being dug by Panaji Smart City officials to install a CCTV pole at the edge of the junction road which is narrow,” he added.
“If the pole is installed at that place, it would hinder smooth flow of traffic and could also result in mishaps.”
After the alarm raised by the panch, better sense seems to have prevailed as an official of Panaji Smart City informed The Goan that they are not going ahead with installation of the CCTV pole at the edge of the road.
“We are going to shift the same away from the road so that it does not hinder the smooth flow of traffic,” the official added.
